If you have 99 problems in your life, chances are you’re not getting much sleep. So to get everything done, sleep is the first thing you sacrifice, right? Well you might want to reconsider your mentality. Getting sleep might be the easiest and best way to solve all of your problems according to great article published in Time.
Increasing Your Lifespan
You might feel like you don’t have enough time now to do everything you want to do. But not getting enough sleep can actually decrease your lifespan so you won’t have enough time to do everything you want to do later in life either according to a Penn State study. After analyzing the impact of insomnia on mortality in 1741 men and women, researcher Alexandros N. Vgontzas and his team found that men who got less than 6 hours of sleep per day were four times more likely to die than those who got a full night of sleep. Other research has confirmed that people who get under 6.5 hours of sleep per night are more likely to die younger.
Decreasing Psychological Stress
Sydney University researcher Nicholas Glozier and his team followed nearly 3000 17-24 year olds for 12 to 18 months. Glozier found that for each hour of lost sleep, psychological distress rose by 5% in participants. In addition, those who got less than 5 hours of sleep per night (short sleepers) were 14% more likely to reports symptoms of psychological distress than those who got a full night of sleep. Furthermore, in participants who suffered from anxiety, lack of sleep triggered more serious mental health problems such as full-blown depression and even bipolar disorder.
Loosing Weight
Yes, getting a full night of sleep can even help you loose weight. Researcher Allison Weiss and her team found followed 240 teens (average age 18) and found that not getting enough sleep meant consuming 2% more calories from fat and 3% more calories from carbs per day. Teens who didn’t enough sleep also tended to get their calories from snacks rather than healthy meals. Cumulative, these calories increase the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease later in life.
How To Fit Sleep Into Your Schedule
Contrary to what you might think, getting more sleep will equate to getting more done! How so?
If you get more sleep, you will have a lot more brain power to complete your daily work faster without the anxiety that comes with a lack of sleep. Your brain power will also increase once you cut down on the unhealthy calories from your midnight ice cream run. Setting a schedule for sleep and going to sleep at a certain time every night will force you to prioritize your tasks and make sure that you get the most important things done (like homework) and leave your less important tasks (such as facebooking) for later.
So get some sleep tonight!! As you continuously get 8 hours of sleep every night, you will notice a big difference in how your feel and how you function. You will be more productive, healthier, and happier.
